Dear Followers and Subscribers,

ONTARIO, CANADA. OCTOBER 19, 2020 – Li-Cycle Corp. (Li-Cycle), a leading lithium-ion battery resource recovery company, has been honoured with the Highly Commended award for Circular Economy Project of the Year at the 10th annual BusinessGreen Leaders Awards.

Launched in 2011, the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards received a record number of entries this year. They are the UK’s most prestigious green business awards, providing a platform for the most innovative, important and inspirational organizations that mark the start of this critical decade by showcasing era-defining work.

The circular economy has moved from concept to viable business model in recent years and this particular award aims to recognize businesses that have pushed the approach into the mainstream. For the category of Circular Economy Project of the Year, the judges looked for innovative projects that have not only reduced overall waste levels, but have also demonstrated the viability of circular economy models and services. Additionally, each project had to deliver broader financial and competitive benefits to an organization or community, while helping to engage a range of stakeholders with circular economy issues in the process.

“We’re proud to have received this Highly Commended recognition for the Circular Economy Project of the Year by the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards,” said Ajay Kochhar, co-founder, president and CEO of Li-Cycle. “It’s an honour to be recognized among so many other distinguished green innovators. This is a recognition of our progress in creating a circular supply chain for lithium-ion batteries in a world where increased electrification is needed to combat climate change.”

Lithium-ion batteries have traditionally been inefficiently recycled, causing the loss of valuable materials, or simply landfilled as hazardous waste. In 2016, Ajay Kochhar and Tim Johnston co-founded Li-Cycle with the vision of being the most sustainable, vertically integrated and globally preeminent lithium-ion battery resource recovery company. Li-Cycle is committed to creating a circular lithium-ion battery supply chain, while providing a sustainable, safe and customer-centric solution.

Li-Cycle provides a full-service resource recovery solution for all types of lithium-ion batteries used in electronic devices, e-mobility, electric vehicles and energy storage. Since launching, the company has developed and validated Li-Cycle’s Spoke & Hub Technologies – a unique and sustainable process that allows for the recovery of all critical materials found in lithium-ion batteries, including lithium, cobalt, nickel and more. The company’s industry-leading processing technology uniquely positions Li-Cycle to be a key player in supporting the growing international movement towards a zero-carbon economy, as well as the creation of a circular economy for lithium-ion batteries.

In completing numerous stages of research and development, along with physical validation workstreams, Li-Cycle successfully rolled out its first Commercial Spoke and Demonstration Hub in Kingston, Ontario and is currently in the process of building Commercial Spoke 2 and Commercial Hub 1 in Rochester, New York. It will then continue to execute its commercial rollout plan across North America, Europe and Asia.
