Business Development Associate

Location: Mississauga, ON 

Job Summary:

The Business Development Associate will report to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and assume a key role in acquiring and managing key accounts for the company, with a focus on the North American market.

Primary Responsibilities:

Support business development engagement efforts for new potential customers/suppliers of spent lithium-ion batteries:

  • Leverage and expand existing contact bases to develop new customers. This includes researching and engaging with organizations to develop additional leads for prospective customers, including but not limited to electric vehicle manufacturers, lithium-ion battery manufacturers, energy storage developers, electronics manufacturers and electronics recyclers
  • Follow-up with existing customers and contacts, and lead the outbound engagement of prospective customers
  • Support the business development process of moving customers from lead status through to execution of a master service agreement
  • Assist in continuously improving Li-Cycle’s website content, online customer portal and other customer facing materials that support customer engagement

Coordinate the execution of and continuously streamline the complete spent lithium-ion battery customer/supplier lifecycle process with existing customers:

  • Ensure responsiveness to inbound and outbound battery shipment requests within 24 hours of receipt
  • Coordinate the regulatory-compliant transport of spent lithium-ion batteries, with a strong focus on safety and attention to detail, between customer sites and Li-Cycle’s processing facility
  • Coordinate shipments and processing of customer batteries internally with Li-Cycle’s operations team on an ongoing basis
  • Manage all necessary documentation, and as applicable, final reporting to customers

Support additional BD work streams as needed: 

  • Financial modeling and analysis
  • Market analysis and intelligence
  • Government funding applications and ongoing reporting
  • Strategy development
  • Process and tool development for streamlining business development
  • Potential to grow into a team lead in the near-term
Job Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a business development role
  • Business-to-business customer facing experience is a must
  • Experience with logistics coordination considered a plus
  • Experience in relevant industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, or energy storage considered a plus
  • Experience using CRM software


  • Engineering, Business, Commerce, or similar Bachelor’s degree
