Commercial Manager

Location: Mississauga, ON

Job Summary:

The Commercial Manager will report to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and assume a key role in
acquiring and managing key customer (battery supply, end-products) accounts for the company, with a
focus on the North American market.

Primary Responsibilities:

Business Development:

  • Battery Supply
    • Leverage and expand existing contact bases to develop new customers. This includes
      researching and engaging with organizations to develop additional leads for prospective
      customers, including but not limited to electric vehicle manufacturers, lithium-ion
      battery manufacturers, energy storage developers, electronics manufacturers and
      electronics recyclers
    • Manage end-to-end process of outbound engagement through to securing contractual
      relationships with new customers
    • Manage all necessary contract documentation including one-time service agreements,
      master service agreements, vendor setup documentation, and billing for specified
      accounts
  • By-products, Intermediate Products and End Products
    • Identify potential partners and customers for the offtake of streams for by-products
      (e.g. plastics), intermediate (e.g. black mass) and end (e.g. cobalt) products
    • Lead research for potential customers for products and outbound engagement to
      potential customers for these products
      o Manage sampling, contract negotiation and contract execution for offtake of these
      products

Government Relations:

  • Government Engagement
    • Support development of government relations strategy and engagement with
      government stakeholders developing relevant policy (e.g. recycling, critical materials
      policies in North America)
    • Monitor policy developments that could impact organization (e.g. regulations, transport
      regulations)
  • Government-related Funding
    • Monitor market for new opportunities to access Government funding for R&D,
      employee subsidies and business expansion
    • Lead application process for new Government funding opportunities through
      collaboration with technical, commercial and management teams
    • Manage ongoing reporting requirements of Government funding programs

Other:

  • Support Chief Commercial Officer and team in other work streams as required:
    • Financial modeling and analysis
    • Market analysis and intelligence
    • Process and tool development for streamlining business development
    • International strategic partnership development
Job Qualifications:
  • University Degree in Business, Economics or Engineering preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in business development and customer management
  • Proven experience negotiating and closing supply agreements
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and implementing skills
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assign and delegate work, problem solve, answer questions and evaluate results of
    performance
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying
    principles, reasons, or facts
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects
  • Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
